Propellerheads RB-338 Rebirth 2.0 w.
"SHotQ JazzMachine"-modification
The Swedish-made software ReBirth has deservingly become a great success
during the last years. This software emulation of old Roland machines (two
TB-303s, a TR-808 and a TR-909) was introduced at the exact right time,
when these units were at the peak of their popularity and sold at astronomical
prices. Since then, thousands of songs (usually of the techno or tramce
kind) has been produced with ReBirth.
For us, ReBirth's software emulations of the 303 are rather pointless.
Though lifelike and good sounding, they don't allow real time playing and
are pretty annoying to program. Still, drum machines are always useful,
and even though we consider sampled sounds anti-ideological as a rule, they
can be rather handy. We used the first version or ReBirth in "Limehouse
Blues" already, and the throbbing latin rhythms in "Caravan"
are ReBirth 2.0.
However, since we alwasy want to be special we created our own "mod"
- a modification of ReBirth with new graphics and drum sounds, especially
suited for transistor jazz. This can be heard on "Topzy", "Nacht
und Tag" and probably other future productions.
